Paddy Pimblett, born on January 3, 1995, grew up in Huyton, Merseyside. He attended St Margaret Mary’s Primary School and Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School. Influenced by the fight between Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort at UFC 103, he embarked on mixed martial arts training at 15. Joining Next Generation MMA, he soon decided to pursue a professional career in the sport. Pimblett shares a close friendship with fellow mixed martial artist Molly McCann. Describing himself as a socialist and a critic of the Conservative Party, he actively supports the Liverpool-wide boycott of The Sun newspaper. Known for his trademark floppy hair and absence of tattoos, Pimblett believes that this allows children to relate to him in a way that would be difficult if he presented a more intimidating appearance—a passionate supporter of Liverpool FC, he dreams of fighting at their home stadium, Anfield.
Paddy Pimblett made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 191 on September 4, 2021, against Luigi Vendramini. Pimblett secured a first-round knockout victory, earning himself the Performance of the Night bonus. Following his impressive win, Pimblett signed a lucrative endorsement deal with Barstool Sports worth over $1,000,000.
In his next fight at UFC Fight Night 204 on March 19, 2022, Pimblett faced Rodrigo Vargas. He submitted Vargas in the first round, earning his second consecutive Performance of the Night award. Paddy later disclosed that he earned $12,000 to show and $12,000 to win.
Pimblett’s next opponent was Jordan Leavitt at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Aspinall on July 23, 2022. Pimblett secured another victory, this time via rear-naked choke submission in the second round, and received the Performance of the Night award once again.
On December 10, 2022, at UFC 282, Pimblett faced Jared Gordon. Despite controversy surrounding the decision, Pimblett emerged victorious, winning the bout unanimously. While some media outlets, fighters, and fans believed that Gordon had won the fight, most of the 24 media sources scored the argument in Pimblett’s favor.
