Who knew that FC Dallas midfield scoring machine Brek Shea likes to channel his inner Jackson Pollock in his time spent off the pitch? Turns out his blonde flock of seagulls hair-do isn’t the only piece of artwork that Brek invests serious time in.
I’m no art critic, but Shea’s work, created in his garage/Left Foot Studio, is pretty alright. Pretty alright enough to raise nearly $10,000 for the FC Dallas Foundation.
The 21-year-old — who scored his team-leading seventh goal Saturday — has his own art studio, Left Foot Studio, in his garage and most often paints the day after a game or on Mondays and Tuesdays before training picks back up.
Sunday night, Shea showcased 10 of his abstract pieces to the “Controlled Chaos†Art Show and Auction at NYLO Hotel in Plano, raising almost $10,000 for the FC Dallas Foundation benefitting disadvantaged youth through soccer.
FC Dallas owner Dan Hunt attended the event and quickly took a liking to one of the masterpieces, Shea said.
“One [painting] that was not in the auction was there and Dan Hunt actually bought it when he first walked in,†said Shea after Monday’s regeneration session. “He was the first one and he liked it right when he saw it. Someone tried to buy it off him for more but he wouldn’t do it.â€
If Frank Lampard did finger-paintings in his garage do you think Roman Abromovich would buy them to adorn the walls of his yacht?
Also, Left Foot Studio’s about page has an awesome description:
Left Foot Studio , Official Art Studio of Brek Shea…Where you pretend like you’re good at art….whether you are or not.
Brek Shea, inspiring creepy fan fiction and wannbe artists. If it’s not inspiring enough for you, I really don’t know what is.
