Nathan Donald Diaz, born on April 16, 1985, is an American professional mixed martial artist. Currently a free agent, Diaz gained recognition during his extensive 15-year tenure in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) following his victory in The Ultimate Fighter 5. Before joining the UFC, Diaz competed in World Extreme Cagefighting, Strikeforce, and Pancrase.
Known for his formidable skills, Diaz is distinguished in receiving the third most UFC bonus awards, totaling 16. In a notable professional boxing debut, he faced Jake Paul but unfortunately suffered defeat.
Diaz hails from Stockton, California, and comes from a diverse heritage of Mexican and Anglo descent. Raised alongside his brother Nick and sister Nina, he attended Tokay High School. Diaz’s martial arts journey began at 11 when he commenced training alongside his brother Nick.

The Diaz brothers are strong advocates for cannabis and have even launched their licensed line of marijuana pre-rolls called California Finest. They not only run the Nick Diaz Academy, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school in Stockton, California, but have also founded Game Up Nutrition, a CBD company. Diaz has followed a primarily vegan lifestyle since he was 18, although he occasionally consumes fish. On June 20, 2018, it was announced that Diaz’s girlfriend had given birth to their daughter.
In September 2022, Diaz made an exhilarating announcement about launching his combat sports promotion company, Real Fight Inc. This move brought significant attention to the city of Stockton, resulting in Diaz being honored with a key to the city by the mayor during a Stockton Kings basketball game in December 2022.
However, in October 2022, Diaz was caught up in a backstage brawl at the Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva boxing match, leading to his removal from the event.
Adding to the controversy, in April 2023, footage emerged of Diaz getting involved in a street altercation that escalated to the point where he rendered a man unconscious by choking him. On April 27, at 7:10 AM, Diaz turned himself into the New Orleans Police Department, facing a second-degree battery charge. Diaz’s attorney argued that his actions were in self-defense, and he was subsequently released on a $10,000 bond.

He was subsequently charged with second-degree battery, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of eight years in prison and a $2,000 fine. Diaz, a free agent in the MMA world, was released from custody after surrendering himself to the authorities, according to his representative Zach Rosenfield.
