Zack Martin From The Cowboys is Thinking About Not Attending the Camp

Sources have told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Zack Martin, the six-time All-Pro guard and team captain of the Dallas Cowboys, may not attend training camp due to his dissatisfaction with his contract and the team’s unwillingness to make any changes to it.

To a source, Martin claimed that his pay is significantly lower than the market average.

This season, Martin’s earnings are approximately $7 million lower than the highest-paid guards in the NFL. The top earners this season are Chris Lind Falcons and Quenton Nelson of the Colts with an average of $20 million.

Martin received his sixth first-team All-Pro award last season. Even though he is 32 years old, he remains one of the most highly productive players in any position.

He allowed three sacks while his team had a 96% success rate in blocking passes, which is the eighth-best in the league. He also had an impressive 73.8% success rate in blocking for running plays.

Sources report that the Cowboys and Martin’s representatives had talked briefly about reworking the seven-year, $93.41 million deal that he signed in 2018 during the combine in February.

Cowboys have restructured Martin’s contract for the fifth consecutive year in March. This was done to create salary-cap space by converting almost $12 million of his $13.5 million base salary into a signing bonus. Martin is signed until 2024 and the restructurings have resulted in his cap figure for next year being over $23 million.

Cowboys are optimistic about securing contract extensions this summer for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and cornerback Trevon Diggs, both of whom are Pro Bowlers. Additionally, they aim to extend the contract for right tackle Terence Steele, who is recovering from a significant knee injury.

Martin has been named to the Pro Bowl eight times and has only missed eight games in his entire career. The only guard with more Pro Bowl appearances in their team’s history is Hall of Famer Larry Allen, who has nine.
