Will the NFL’s Black Friday Game Be a Hit?

The NFL recently revealed that they will be unveiling the first, potentially annual, Black Friday game. Typically, there are three games on Thanksgiving and fans are left to wait until Sunday for another game. This game will take place on Amazon as the NFL furthers its relationship with the streaming service.

Barring any injuries, this will be an incredible divisional matchup between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. These are two teams that will likely be fighting for ground in the divisional race in the AFC East. It appears that the division will be a three-team race between the Jets, Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills.

Both the Jets and Dolphins have very well-rounded rosters heading into the season. The Dolphins already had one of the top passing attacks in the league last season due to the addition of Tyreek Hill. If quarterback Tua Tagoviola is able to play through the entirety of the season, there is a chance that he could finish near the top of the league in passing yards with the elite receiving core he has around him.

Along with this, the Dolphins also made a big addition to their defense over the offseason. They traded for one of the top cornerbacks in the league in Jalen Ramsey. This will pair him with four-time Pro Bowler Xavien Howard. With an elite passing game along with one of the best cornerback rooms in the league, the Dolphins could be a very dangerous team this season if they can stay healthy.

On the flip side, the New York Jets are one of the most promising teams coming into the 2023 season. Last offseason, they did an incredible job through the draft. They were able to acquire Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall. Gardner finished as an All-Pro, Wilson was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Hall was well on his way to being one of the top running backs in the league before he suffered an injury that would cut his injury short.

While they finished with a 7-10 record which placed them in last place in the AFC East, they were greatly held back by quarterback Zach Wilson. Over the offseason, they made a blockbuster trade that landed them Aaron Rodgers in the twilight years of his career. While Rodgers may only be with the team for one season, his intentions are clear. He wants to end his playing days as a Super Bowl champion, and the Jets have built a roster around him that is more than capable of getting that done.

This should be an incredible game between two teams that will be fighting for a playoff spot. As long as both teams are healthy, this will be a must-watch game and a great inaugural game of what will hopefully be a new tradition of Black Friday games.
