Will the Dallas Cowboys Have the Best Defense In 2023
Recently, Skip Bayless made headlines when he claimed that the Dallas Cowboys would have the best defense in the NFL next season. He put out a tweet saying, “My Cowboys will be led to the NFC Championship not by Dak Prescott, but by Micah Parsons and our defense, which will be the best in the NFL”.
While Bayless is known for having some of the worst takes of any sports media personality, there may be some validity to this claim. Over the offseason, the Cowboys got a steal, acquiring Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts for only the 176th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
He will join Trevon Diggs who has emerged as one of the top corners in the league since joining the Cowboys in the 2020 season. Along with this, Dallas has an elite linebacking core headed by Micah Parsons.
Despite Parsons technically being a linebacker, he is still one of the most talented pass rushers in all of football. His elite speed and agility make him an extremely difficult player to block and he can get to the quarterback in a split second.
Last season, Dallas ranked 12th in the league for yards allowed per game, 22nd in rushing yards allowed per game, 8th in passing yards per game, and third in sacks.
If Diggs and Parsons are able to continue to develop their games and take another jump this season, there is a chance that the Cowboys could end up being one of the top defenses in the NFL, however, it is hard to believe that they will be able to outperform the defensive units of the San Francisco 49ers or Philadelphia Eagles.
