Along with the New York Jets bringing in one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets Allen Lazard before the veteran quarterback joined the team, they also recently brought in Randall Cobb to join the receiving core as well.
Cobb has spent ten of his twelve seasons in the NFL playing alongside Rodgers. While he has never been a full-time starter throughout the entirety of his career, he is a very reliable target and one that Rodgers clearly trusts.
With the Jets already having a very loaded wide receiver room, it will be very interesting to see how Cobb will fit in, and the impact he will have for the Jets this season. Currently, the team rosters Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman Jr., Corey Davis, and Denzel Mims. Many have speculated that with the addition of Cobb, the Jets may look to move Davis for either draft capital or to further bulk up their roster in the short term.
Even if Davis is traded from the team, Cobb would be the first wide receiver to come off of the bench. With the incredible chemistry that he has with Rodgers, it would not be a shock if he got a considerable amount of playing time, although he likely will not start barring any injuries. It would not be unrealistic to predict that he could contribute around 30 catches for 400 yards and 3 touchdowns.
If one of the Jets’ top receivers do happen to suffer an injury though, this could end up being one of the best seasons that Cobb has had since his 2019 season with the Dallas Cowboys. Outside of his on-the-field production, Cobb will also serve as a great mentor for younger receivers like Garrett Wilson. Being able to learn both from Rodgers and Cobb will do nothing but great things for his career moving forward.
