With the NFL season right around the corner, sportsbooks have begun to release their lines projecting how many wins each team will get. While this is an exciting time for the teams that are set to have big seasons in 2023, as always, there are other teams that are projected to be amongst the bottom feeders. There are three teams that are set to have very tough seasons in the NFC in the 2023 season.
The Arizona Cardinals are projected to be the worst team in the entire NFL in the 2023 season. This adds up as they had a very rough season last year, and along with this, quarterback Kyler Murray is set to rejoin the team around the halfway point in the season. As a result of this, Arizona will likely have one of the worst offenses in the league. Although Colt McCoy is a solid backup quarterback, the Cardinals are in a very rough place bringing him out as a day-one starter.
Along with this, they have a very shaky defensive unit. There is not much to look forward to for Cardinals fans this season. However, the 2024 NFL draft could end up being one of the biggest nights in their franchise’s history if they end up holding true to their projection of 4.5 wins this season.
In their first season without Tom Brady on the roster, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are projected to be the second-worst team in the NFC. With Baker Mayfield set to be the team’s starting quarterback heading into the season, the Buccaneers are projected to win 6.5 games.
Outside of their wide receiving core, their roster is in shambles, and many of their veteran players are trying to find a way to leave the team. This could end up being a team that is very active in unloading its roster around the trade deadline and could be in contention for one of the top quarterbacks in the loaded 2024 class.
Despite Tampa Bay being a team that most of the NFL world is very low on, they could end up making a run for their division. If Mayfield is able to turn back the clock and takes advantage of having Mike Evans and Chris Godwin at his disposal, the NFC South is a division that is wide open.
The Los Angeles Rams are projected to be the third-worst team in the 2023 season after having a very rough year in 2022. They are only projected to win 6.5 games, however, just like the Buccaneers, if a couple of things go their way, they could be contending for a playoff spot.
While their defense is in a very tough spot after trading star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins, the offense could be revitalized with a healthy Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp. The last season that both players were healthy through the entirety of a season, they were arguably the top quarterback-wide receiver duo in the league. Along with this, Aaron Donald has shut down any rumors of him considering retirement and he is loving the narrative of the Rams being underdogs heading into the season.
