1. Houston Texans

Despite the Houston Texans being very aggressive in free agency and the franchise amongst the most active in free agency, they are still projected to be the worst team in the AFC. This makes sense as Houston still has a lot of holes in their roster, however, they still could end up putting together a respectable season.

On draft night, they held the second overall pick that they used to draft quarterback C.J. Stroud. They then traded a hefty amount of draft capital to trade up to the third overall pick and select Will Anderson Jr. Despite these moves, Houston’s line currently sits at 5.5 games.

If Stroud and Anderson Jr. are able to adjust to the professional level quickly, Houston could shock the NFL world this season. They are in an incredibly weak division, and while they are a ways away from contending for a division title, they may find a way to surpass expectations and take six games in the 2023 season.

2. Indianapolis Colts

Another team from the AFC South clocks in amongst the worst teams in the NFL. The Indianapolis Colts line is set at only 6.5 wins this season. This comes after they used the fourth overall pick in the draft to select Anthony Richardson. While this was right around where he was projected to be drafted, it was still a rather risky pick for the Colts. He greatly struggled as a passer in college, however, with NFL-caliber receivers around him on the Colts, he could make great strides in the passing game.

Along with this, the Colts still have some very talented pieces on the defensive end. Although they traded away Stephon Gilmore causing a big hit to their secondary, Indianapolis still has a great pass rush. While they will not be a great team by any means, if the bet on Richardson pays off, the Colts could also make some noise in their division.

3. Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are projected to be the third-worst team in the AFC with a line of 7.5 wins. This likely comes as a result of the glaring hole at their quarterback position. They have some very talented offensive weapons in Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams, however, with Jimmy Goroppolo under center, it is very likely that the offense will struggle.

Along with this, they had one of the worst defenses in the entire NFL last season. It does not appear that they made enough changes over the season for there to be any major improvements. Pairing this with the fact that the AFC West is set to be one of the most competitive divisions in the conference, this could end up being a very long season for Raiders fans.
