Top Three Worst Offenses In the NFL Heading Into the 2023 Season

As a result of the importance of an elite offense to make any sort of run in today’s NFL, if a team does not have an above-average offensive unit, it is extremely difficult for them to even make a run at a playoff spot. As a result of this, these three teams with the worst offensive units heading into 2023 could be in store for a very rough season.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The team that will likely have the worst offense in 2023 is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last season, the Bucs struggled greatly and would struggle to make the playoffs even with Tom Brady under center.

This season, they are set to play Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback, and this could be a recipe for disaster. Mayfield has proven to be extremely inconsistent throughout his NFL career, and a player that is very turnover prone. At points of last season, many believed that he may have played himself out of the league, however, after a solid run with the Los Angeles Rams, he earned a spot on the Buccaneers.

He will still have a very elite wide-receiving duo to throw the ball to in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, however, this could end up being career low year for the duo if Mayfield is unable to put together a solid year.

Along with losing Brady, Tampa Bay also lost running back Leonard Fournette in free agency. It is clear that the team is well on its way to a rebuild after the Tom Brady era netted them a Super Bowl.

2. Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are another team that will greatly struggle on the offensive end this season. They took a big risk on Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, and if he falls short of expectations this season, there is a strong chance that the Colts offense is amongst the worst in the league.

In college, Richardson was not a great passer. While he had an incredible arm, he was not always the most accurate. He had a completion percentage of 53.9%. However, if he can make the jump as a passer in his rookie season and at least keep teams honest, he and Jonathan Taylor could be one of the most exciting backfield duos in the league.

3. Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans appeared to be willing to begin their rebuild and move on from Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, however, the two veterans still remain on the roster. As a result of this, the Titans’ offense will be more of the same in 2023. That was a very run-dominant attack to make up for their lack of a passing game.

With Henry beginning to show signs of slowing down as a result of this strategy and the number of carries he has taken throughout his career, there will eventually come a point when he is no longer capable of being the player Tennessee needs him to be. If that occurs this season, there is a strong chance that the Titans will end up being one of the weakest offensive units in the league.
