After the recent standoff and very confusing situation between the Buffalo Bills and Stefon Diggs, reports have come out that the team is “quietly shopping” their star receiver. After skipping out on a team practice, head coach Sean McDermott was quoted as saying that he was “very concerned” about Diggs’ absence.
The story got a bit more convoluted after Diggs’ agent stated that Diggs was at the team’s facility the day that McDermott said that he was not. This comes off of Diggs having a public outburst on the sideline in the 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals that would end their season. With there being potential issues between Diggs and his team, there is a chance that the Bills could decide to move on from him and deal him to a different team. There are three teams that would greatly benefit from trading for Diggs.
The most interesting landing spot for Diggs is the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys already made a deal to land Bandin Cooks over the offseason, however, they could quickly establish their wide receiver room as the best in the league if they make a deal for Diggs. A trio of Diggs, Cooks, and CeeDee Lamb would be a serious problem for opposing secondaries.
Along with this, trading for Diggs would allow him to play alongside his brother Trevon. With Dallas on the cusp of being a contending team, this could be a move that moves the needle enough for them to give the Philadelphia Eagles a real run for their money in the NFC East.
Another contender that could make a trade for Diggs is the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers already have one of the most high-powered offenses in the league, however, if they are able to make a deal for Diggs, they could establish themselves as the top offensive unit in the league. For a deal to work, the 49ers would likely have to part ways with either Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel, however, it would be well worth it.
Pairing Diggs with other weapons on the offense like Christian McCafferty and George Kittle could be enough for the 49ers to make a trip to the Super Bowl in the 2023 season. Along with this, they already have one of the strongest defensive units in the league as well. With Diggs on the roster, San Francisco would potentially have the strongest most well ronded team in the league.
The final top trade partner for the Bills to unload Diggs is the Detroit Lions. The Lions still have a fair amount of cap space and are one of the most up and coming teams in the NFL. Last season, the Lions have a high powered offense with a shockingly elite passing attack. If Jared Goff is able to continue this into the 2023 season, the addition of Diggs could make the Lions a very dangerous team.
With the very quality additions they made to their defense over the offseason, trading for Diggs would be the cherry on top to an incredible offseason.
