With the NFL season right around the corner, there is a good chance that all of the record-breaking deals have already been signed for the year. There are three years that clock in as the league’s biggest earners heading into the 2023 season on the offensive side.
Lamar Jackson was one of the most talked about players during the offseason. Throughout almost the entirety of the offseason, Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens were in hostile contract negotiations. It appeared at one point that things would not be resolved between the two sides after Baltimore placed him on a non-exclusive franchise tag. Shortly after this, Jackson would publicly request a trade from the team.
However, after the Ravens went into damage control to resolve things, Jackson would sign an extension with the team. He now leads the league with the highest three-year in terms of average adjusted salary per year at $52 million. Along with this, Jackson now has a revamped receiving core including Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers.
Shortly before Jackson signed his deal, Jalen Hurts was the highest-paid player in the league in terms of APY. Hurts held the title for ten days before Baltimore would make their player the highest-paid player in the NFL. Hurt’s APY clocks in at $51 million.
This was a well-earned contract after Hurts made an enormous jump last season. He proved to the team that he is more than capable of leading the team to the Super Bowl, and if one or two more plays went Philadelphia’s way, they easily could have won the game. With the Eagles coming into the season with arguably a better roster than they had last year, and their quarterback now well-paid, they could possibly win it all this season.
Aaron Rodgers rounds out the top three highest-paid offensive players in the NFL. Before this offseason, he was the highest-paid player in the league after his record-breaking deal with the Green Bay Packers with an APY of $50.2 million.
This could end up being the final year of his illustrious career, and he is in a great situation to potentially go out on top. He was traded to a very young and talented New York Jets team that appeared to be only a quarterback away from making some real noise last season. If their young stars continue to develop and the team can make a big jump with Rodgers at the helm this season, they could be one of the scariest teams in the AFC this season. The veteran quarterback has already taken a liking to the city, and New York has reciprocated the love. It will be very interesting to see how Rodgers and the Jets go on to fare in the 2023 season.
