On May 11th at 8:00 PM, the NFL will release the full schedule for the season. However, it has already been announced which team will be playing which and where the games will take place, the event on the 11th will disclose which week of the season each of these matchups will take place.
While there are a plethora of games to keep an eye on, there are three in particular that caught fans’ attention and will likely take up prime time slots. Each of these three matchups pits some of the best teams in the league against each other and also has incredible storylines surrounding the game.
The first matchup that will be a must-watch comes between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. This is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII where the Chiefs took down the Eagles by a final score of 38-35. While the Eagles were defeated on the league’s biggest stage last season, they are coming back with a retooled roster that likely will perform even better than last year.
Over the offseason, they made a trade that landed them running back D’Andre Swift and also had an incredible first round in the 2023 NFL draft that landed them Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean. Despite their new additions, it still may not be enough to take down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. While Philadelphia did a great job of containing the greatest quarterback in the league in the first half of the Super Bowl, Mahomes led a second-half comeback that won him the second Super Bowl of his career.
Along with the incredible matchup between the two teams, this will also be another rendition of the “Kelce Bowl” between brothers Jason and Travis Kelce. These two players are impact players for both of their team’s respective offenses and are the cherry on top that makes this game the best matchup of the season.
What appears to be the second-best matchup of the 2023 season also features the Kansas City Chiefs, this time taking on the Cincinnati Bengals. These two teams also faced off in the playoffs last year where the Chiefs took down the Bengals by a final score of 23-20 in the AFC Championship. There was a lot of trash talk between the two teams both before and after the game, and that is likely to continue into this matchup.
This game will feature arguably the two best quarterbacks in the AFC and while Mahomes still has two rings to Joe Burrow’s zero, Burrow holds the series lead over Mahomes. The AFC Championship was the first time in four matchups that the Chiefs were able to take down the Burrow-led Bengals. Expect this to be a high-scoring game and both quarterbacks to have incredible nights in what is set up to be one of the best games of the season.
The final game that will be a must-watch this season is actually a two-game series in what will likely be a big divisional rivalry this season. With Aaron Rodgers joining the New York Jets, they will be one of the most exciting teams to watch this season, however, many believe that even with Rodgers they still do not have what it takes to win their division. The team that will be standing in their way is the Buffalo Bills.
If either team is able to sweep this series, it will likely be enough to clinch the top spot in the AFC East for the winner. Both teams have very complete and well-rounded rosters. Last season, the teams split the series with them each winning one game. New York took the first matchup by a final score of 20-17 while Buffalo won the final matchup by a score of 20-12.
There is a chance that things may be a little more high scoring between the two teams this season, however, with each side having some of the best defensive units in the entire NFL, it is anyone’s guess how this series will end up playing out.
