After three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Darius Slay’s run with the team has come to an end.
It appeared that he would be making a return as he was the team’s top cornerback last season in their Super Bowl run, however, after being unable to reach an agreement to a contract extension, the Eagles decided to release him.
In the past two consecutive seasons, Slay was a member of the Pro Bowl team for the NFC, however, this still was not enough for the Eagles to open their pocketbooks and keep him on the roster. A large reason behind this could be the fact that they are trying to keep enough cap space open to give their quarterback Jalen Hurts the large extension that he will be expected soon.
Slay will be highly sought after on the free agent market. Although he will be 31 years old coming into the 2023 season, he is still one of the top corners in the NFL.
Some teams that may be in hot pursuit of him include the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Washington Commanders.
