A new suspension has been issued to Denver Broncos defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike due to his violation of the NFL’s gambling policy. He has been banned indefinitely for betting on league games during his first year as a rookie in 2022.
The player Uwazurike will not be able to participate in games for a minimum of one year. After that, they can request to be reinstated on or after July 24, 2024.
In April, five NFL players received suspensions, and three more players were recently banned for the entirety of the 2023 season.
“Our organization fully co-operated with this investigation and takes matters pertaining to the integrity of the game very seriously,” read a Broncos statement.
“The Denver Broncos will continue to provide all members of our organization with the necessary education, resources, and support to ensure compliance with the NFL’s gambling policy.”
In 2022, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for a similar offense but was later reinstated in March. Recently, the Detroit Lions released Quintez Cephus, CJ Moore, and Stanley Berryhill, who were among the five players penalized in April. Similarly, the Indianapolis Colts released Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry, who were among the three players banned for the 2023 season. It has been reported that Nicholas Petit-Frere, the right tackle for the Tennessee Titans, has been suspended for participating in sports betting activities while at the team facility.
