With the NFL season right around the corner, multiple sportsbooks have released their projections for who they believe will win each division. While there are not many surprises from these projections, there are some very elite teams set to secure an automatic spot in the playoffs.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are projected to win the AFC West. This is by no means a shock to anyone. They are coming off of a Super Bowl season, and have a chance to repeat in the 2023 season if they can stay healthy. Patrick Mahomes has proven time and time again that he can lead the Chiefs to the promised land, doing it last season in his first year without Tyreek Hill.
Although the Chiefs do not have the strongest roster of the Mahomes era coming into this season, they still have more than what it takes to win their division. Their biggest competition will likely be the Los Angeles Chargers. While they are set to be a solid team, if the Chiefs can remain healthy, they should not have too much trouble taking the division for the eighth straight season.
2. Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals are the favorites to win the AFC North. This will be a very competitive division with the Baltimore Ravens bulking up their receiving core and signing quarterback Lamar Jackson to the largest extension in league history. However, ever since acquiring Joe Burrow, the Bengals have run their division.
Cincinnati has won the AFC North in the previous two seasons, and likely will once again take it this season if they can stay healthy. They have one of the strongest passing attacks in the league with arguably the top receiving core. Along with this, a very solid defense that rounds the team out well.
3. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are expected to win the AFC East. This is arguably the toughest division in all of football this season. The New York Jets will be hot on Buffalo’s tails with the addition of Aaron Rodgers to their already talented young roster. However, the Bills are one of the most well-rounded teams in the league. They have an incredible passing offense led by Josh Allen, and one of the top defensive units in the league as well. Although they have fallen short in the playoffs the past few seasons, the Bills have always thrived in the regular season.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
The final team projected to win their division in the AFC this season is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville could be one of the most exciting teams in the 2023 season. Trevor Lawrence is poised to have a breakout season, and with the team getting to unveil Calvin Ridley after he served a one-year suspension, they could end up being a top duo.
They went on an incredible run through the tail end of the regular season that clinched them a spot in the playoffs. They would take full advantage of the opportunity and despite finding themselves down 27-0 in the first round to the Los Angeles Chargers, they were able to claw back and secure the win. In the second round, they gave the Chiefs a run for their money and fell just short of what could have been a trip to the AFC Championship.
