With Aaron Rodgers officially a member of the New York Jets, the question remains whether they have what it takes to make a run at the Super Bowl this year. It is clear that with Rodgers having one or two years left in the tank before retirement, the Jets find themselves in a Super Bowl or bust situation after giving up a considerable amount of draft compensation for the veteran quarterback.
With the AFC as loaded as it is this season, and the AFC East shaping up to be one of the toughest divisions in the league, it will be a very tall task for the Jets to even make the playoffs as talented as they are. However, this has a strong chance of being a career-revitalizing season for Rodgers after a down year in his final season with the Green Bay Packers. The last time he had Nathaniel Hackett as his offensive coordinator, he went on a run of winning back-to-back MVPs and having some of the best seasons of his career despite his age.
This is a trend that could continue in New York. Although they are a young team, they are extremely talented, and with Rodgers mentoring them, their potential is limitless for this season. Along with Rodgers having the chance to turn back the clock in 2023, Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson are poised to have breakout seasons after putting together very respectable rookie years. This is also set to be the best defense that Rodgers has had since his Super Bowl-winning season in 2011.
However, to win the division, they must find a way to beat out the Buffalo Bills who have been division champs in the past three consecutive years. If they are unable to win the division, they still have a strong chance of claiming one of the three wild card spots, however, it will be a dogfight. Teams like the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Chargers will likely be in contention for a wild card spot. With this potentially being the last dance for Rodgers, if they are able to make it into the postseason, barring any injuries, they are capable of beating anyone and he could finish his career riding into the sunset with a Super Bowl trophy.
