Alexander Volkanovski Wants to Train Mark Zuckerberg
After his upcoming fight, UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski wants to train Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for his unusual boxing match against billionaire Elon Musk.
After falling short in his attempt to win the 155lb title against pound-for-pound No.3 Islam Makhachev five months ago, the Aussie fighter will now compete in his original weight class of featherweight at UFC 290. Yair Rodriguez will fight Alexander Volkanovski to try to become the undisputed champion. Mark Zuckerberg has been offered a front-row seat for the Las Vegas event, but it is uncertain if he will attend. Volkanovski’s agent has confirmed that he has been approached to train Zuckerberg for an MMA fight against Elon Musk. Zuckerberg is a big UFC fan and has become friends with Volkanovski in recent years.
“Yeah, he’s a mate,” Volkanovski said last year.
“I knew well before he made the appearance at the UFC that he’s a big fan. He loves the sport.”
“I do consider him my mate. Again, he’s a cool dude; we get along.”
Volkanovski’s manager Ash Belcastro confirmed the pair are interested in meeting up after Sunday’s title fight and now talk together on the phone “quite a bit”.
“We’ve hung out with Mark and spoken to him about having a fight,” Belcastro revealed.
‘”he was obviously before all the Elon Musk stuff, but he’s definitely open to it and Volk would definitely be there to help him.”
“I know he has a lot of passion for the sport.
‘When you start grappling, it becomes really addictive and I think he’s found a real enjoyment in that.”
“He’s a really competitive guy who likes to challenge himself.”
UFC great Jon Jones has also offered his services to train Zuckerberg, while Musk has received similar offers from a bunch of high-profile UFC stars, including Jorge Masvidal, Dominick Cruz, and Georges St-Pierre. It promises to be an exciting fight between two tech billionaires Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg, should they decide to go ahead with it. But until then, all eyes are on Yair Rodriguez’s upcoming matchup against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 290 in Las Vegas.
