The rebuild has begun for the Washington Wizards. After missing the play-in, the team finally decided to call it quits on the Bradley Beal era and would trade him to the Phoenix Suns. Along with this, they would deal their big man Kristaps Porzingis to the Boston Celtics.
With most of the veteran talent now stripped from their roster, there is still one more player the Wizards could likely get a considerable return for. That player is Kyle Kuzma. During his time in Washington, Kuzma did an incredible job of further developing his game with the larger role he had with the Wizards.
He thrived as a scorer and proved himself as an improved defender. With Kuzma likely not wanting to run it back again in Washington, and him not fitting into the plans for a rebuild, it would be in their best interest to set up a sign and trade.
This would allow Washington to deal him to a contending team and take on some players with unfavorable one-year contracts as well. While this would set them up to be one of the worst teams in the 2023-24 season, it would net Washington a considerable amount of draft capital or young players that they can build around.
Last season, Kuzma averaged a career-high 21.2 points per game while pulling in 7.2 rebounds, and dishing out 3.7 assists per game. He did this while shooting 44.8% from the field and 33.3% from three. While he may need some work on his shooting efficiency if he is traded to a contending team, he has proven in the past that he is capable of being a very viable three-and-d option.
