Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Clippers NBA Summer League
The Sacramento Kings won their first Las Vegas NBA Summer League game 80-76 against the Atlanta Hawks. Jordan Ford scored the most points in the game, with 20 points made from 8-for-14 shooting, along with two rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Kessler Edwards scored 14 points, including three three-pointers and five perfect shots from the foul line. Neemas Queta recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. All five Kings starters scored more than ten points. Both teams had a low shooting percentage, shooting below 40 percent from the field in the game. Specifically, Sacramento limited Atlanta to only 33.8 percent shooting.
The Los Angeles Clippers lost their first Summer League game to the Utah Jazz by a score of 105-99. Keyonte George of the Utah Jazz scored 33 points. Meanwhile, Xavier Moon of the Ontario Clippers team scored 26 points and was the top performer for LA. He made six three-pointers and 10 out of 14 shots in just 24 minutes. Of the players in the Clippers team, seven scored more than 10 points, including all five starters.
The Sacramento Kings are favored to win by 1.5 points in their upcoming game. However, the team struggled to shoot accurately, with a shooting percentage of just under 40%. In their previous games during the California Classic, the team won both times with the help of rookie Keegan Murray. In the most recent game without Murray, the team still won, but their offensive plays seemed less organized.
Only Jordan Ford from the Kings had a shooting percentage over 50%. He made 8 of his 14 field goal attempts, while the rest of the starting team only shot 41 percent. On Friday, Kings summer league coach Luke Louks praised the performance of the 25-year-old.
“I thought Jordan Ford was spectacular,” said Loucks after the game, via Rotoballer. “Jordan has been a heck of a player all camp. He has controlled the pace for us. He has executed everything we’ve asked. He has guarded the ball and I thought he did such a good job controlling the game in the fourth.”
Still, Sacramento managed to win despite struggling with their shooting thanks to their solid defense. They limited the Hawks to only 26-of-77 shooting and forced them into committing 21 turnovers. If the Kings can replicate that defensive effort against Los Angeles, who had a hot shooting night on Friday, they should be in a good position to remain undefeated in Summer League. Additionally, if they can improve their offensive performance, they may be able to exceed expectations and cover the spread.
Although the Los Angeles Clippers lost to the Utah Jazz, there were some positive aspects from the game. The Clippers had a strong offensive performance, with a 49.4 percent field goal percentage. Additionally, seven Clippers players scored at least 10 points. Xavier Moon, a three-time MVP from the Canadian Elite Basketball League, scored the most points for the team with 26. In total, the team shot 55 percent from the field, with 41 of their 74 shots being successful. However, Brodric Thomas and Jordan Bowden did not contribute to the scorecard and went 0-for-9 from the field. The team had difficulty with free throw shots, only making 4 out of 13 attempts. If they are able to improve in this area, they have a better chance of winning their first game in the Las vegas NBA Summer League.
Although the team played well on offense, their defense was lacking in the game against the Jazz. The Jazz were able to make 50 percent of their field goals and 39 percent of their three-point shots. Additionally, Keyonte George scored a total of 33 points during the game. However, the upcoming match against the Kings may not be as difficult, as they do not have a scorer like George. Nevertheless, the team will still need to contend with the Kings’ strong defense, which limited the Hawks to a 34 percent shooting accuracy.
Despite being underdogs for this game, I believe the Clippers have the advantage to win. They have a well-rounded attack, and Xavier Moon can score at any moment. On the other hand, Sacramento is struggling to find an offensive strategy, especially with Keegan Murray performing exceptionally well in the Summer League. With all of this in mind, it is hard to pick a clear favorite for the matchup. However, we can be sure that it will be an exciting game with both teams striving for victory.
