After recently being traded to the Washington Wizards in a deal that landed the Phoenix Suns Bradley Beal, Chris Paul is on the move once again after being dealt to the Golden State Warriors. The trade sent Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2030 first-round protected pick to the Wizards while the Warriors received Paul.
This is a very interesting deal for both sides. The Wizards provide Poole with more of an opportunity to be a primary option. During his time with the Warriors, he struggled to break into the starting lineup. His inability to get a consistent opportunity led to him being very streaky in the 2023 season. In the postseason, he would end up being benched in the team’s series against the Los Angeles Lakers after going through a massive shooting slump. However, as the potential first option in Washington, Poole could end up developing into a star.
He showed the potential of being a player able to lead his own team in the 2022 playoff run that would result in a championship for Golden State. At times, Poole was playing so well that he even took Stephen Curry’s starting spot.
Paul will be a very interesting fit for the Golden State Warriors. There is a very slim chance that he will break into the starting lineup as long as Curry stays healthy. Starting both future Hall of Famers would be a nightmare on the defensive end. However, Paul will serve as a very elite option as a 6th man. He has one of the highest basketball IQs in the league, and with him on the team, Golden State now has a handful of some of the top passers in the league.
There is a chance that the team will still be able to retain Draymond Green on the roster after he opted out of his player option. If Paul can remain healthy through the 2023-24 season, the Warriors could once again be title contenders. With Paul being one of the best passers the game has ever seen, Curry will likely be getting more wide-open threes than he ever has in his career.
With Paul hungry to get the first ring of his career and the core of the Warriors ready to get the fifth ring of their dynasty, this was an incredible deal for the Warriors and could be one that sets them up well to make another run for a title.
